Take a trip down the memory lane or explore the vividness of the glorious past at the oldest museums in India. The State Government Museum at Kasturba Gandhi Road in Bengaluru has it all. It was established in the year 1866 A.D. and since then has enthralled many visitors with its impressive collection of ancient artifacts. Some of the ancient artifact found in this museum includes artistic works such as sculpture coins and inscriptions. These inscriptions were found in different parts of ancient Karnataka. The museum has exhibits of antiquities from Mohenjadaro and terracotta from Mathura. It contains traditional paintings of renowned artists. Some of the artifacts include Watercolor paintings, Plaster of Paris works and other works of art. There is a separate section displaying the works of Major Cheppudira Ponnappa Rajaram which consists mainly of wooden sculptures. The other attraction of the State Government Museum is the Venkatappa Art Gallery named after the popular Mysore artist, K. Venkatappa. This famous artist paintings were all nature inspired and you'll find mesmerizing masterpieces of Nilgiri Mountains, Kodaikanal, sunrise in Ooty, a painting on monsoon and other equally inimitable paintings. Though the main exhibition displays his work, the work of painters and sculptors representing India's contemporary or modern school are also displayed in the gallery. Here you'll get the rare opportunity of viewing 600 paintings by eminent artists like M. F. Hussain, N.S. Bendre, Vasudev, Hanumaiah, Hariram, Rekha Rao, and Yusuf Arakkal and other contemporary painters

. The second floor of the gallery is dedicated solely to the famous artist K.K.Hebbar. These paintings are beautiful depictions of the elements of nature like fire, water and land. This Hebbar section has various titles like Vayu, Prithvi, Sea Shore, Jala, Nagamandala, In Space, Agni, Death and the Last Glimpse.

. The gallery also comprises of two halls, which have the Mathura stone sculptures and the sculptures from the Khajuraho School of Art. It also houses clay artifacts and pottery, which belong to the Indus Valley Civilization.
How To Reach :
By Road/Bus : KSRTC buses connect all cities in the state to Bangalore. Many super deluxe bus services are available from Bangalore to Hyderabad, Cochin, Trivandrum, Chennai, Mumbai, Goa and Mysore.
By Plane/Air : Bangalore International Airport is 40 km away from the heart of the city, Majestic. It costs about Rs 300 by auto rickshaw and Rs 600 by taxi. Pre paid taxi facilities are available in Airport. Bangalore airport is well connected to almost all airports in India. International flights to major foreign cities are also operated from Bangalore.
By Train/Rail : Bangalore Majestic, Bangalore Cantonment (8 km to Majestic) and Yeshwanthpur (10 km away from Majestic) are the three main stations in Bangalore. Bangalore Majestic is connected to all major cities in India.
