Samastipur is a city that is located in the state of Bihar in the Samastipur district. The city is situated on the banks of the Ganges River. The town is known for its festivals and one can witness a host of these festivals through the year. Some of the main ones are the Chathh, Durga Pooja, Hanuman Jayanthi, Eid and Muharram. One of the main temples in the place is the Thaneshwar Temple that is located in the center of the city. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. There are different mandirs within the temple itself and they are Shiva Mandir, Ram Mandir, Ganesh Mandir, Kali Mandir, Hanuman Mandir and Shani Mandir.
The town is an epitome of Hindu-Muslim unity. A place called Makbara is located here and both Hindus and Muslims revere this place and consider it as sacred. One can also visit the Kahtu Shyam Bihari that is situated near the Gola Road. Another religious place near the town is Mannipur and people travel to the place to receive blessings from Durga Mata. There are various movie theaters that are located in and around the town as well. The Vidyapati Dham, which is the tomb of poet Vidyapati, is also worth a visit.

The nearest major airport is the Patna Airport and it is connected to many of the important cities in the country. One can reach the airport by opting for flights from Mumbai, Kolkata, Ranchi and Lucknow. Regular flights are available from Delhi as well. Once you reach the airport, you can hire a taxi to the city of Samastipur. Taxis are plentiful and they cost Rs 7 per kilometer for the trip. The travel time is approximately three hours.
By Train/Rail :
The closest railway station is located 15 kilometers outside the city of Samastipur. Third A/C sleeper tickets from Patna to Samastipur will cost Rs 240. The Jyg Garib Rath connects the city to Patna. Auto rickshaws and taxis are available at the station and they charge around Rs 150 from the station to the city center.
