Rewari

Rewari is a city and a municipal council in Rewari district in the Indian state of Haryana. It is located about 82 km from country capital Delhi. Its geographical coordinates are 28.11 North and 76.37 East and is at an elevation of 241.95 meters.

Legendary tales say that during the time of Mahabharata, King Rewat had a daughter named Rewati. The king would address her as Rewa, and founded a city "Rewa Wadi" named after her (Wadi means neighborhood). She was married to Balram, the elder brother of Lord Krishna. The king gifted the city to his daughter in her wedding. As time passed by Rewa-Wadi became Rewari.

Rewari is a city and the district headquarters of the Rewari district. The Sahibi and Krishnawati River flows through the area. Rewari is 82 km from the national capital, New Delhi on the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway NH8 and is a part of the National Capital Region with a variety of industries, from cottage industries to small-scale integrated units.

Located close to Delhi has given Rewari an advantage of developing as an industrial hub. The most developed areas are mainly in the vicinity of the Dharuhera Complex, Rewari Complex and the Bawal Growth Centre. The second manufacturing plant of Hero Honda Motors Limited, (the world's largest producer of two wheelers), is situated in the Dharuhera Industrial Area. Other major companies located in the area are Space Age India Ltd., Indo Nission Foods Ltd., Sony India Ltd., G.K. Invel Transmission Ltd., Pasupati Spining & Weaving Mills Ltd., Asahi India Safety Glass Ltd., Backton & Dickinson Ltd., and Svedala India Ltd.

Small scale industrial units manufacturing traditional articles such as Brass utensils, brass metal-works, greystone bricks & tiles and hand-made embroidery shoes without laces (Tilla Jootis) are also the major contributors to the city’s economy.
