Bhagalpur

Bhagalpur is a city that is located in the state of Bihar in the Bhagalpur district. Bhagalpur is known as the Silk City and it is famous for the production of first grade silk products. It is one of the biggest cities in the state and has a reasonably well developed infrastructure. It is an old city and one can find references to the city from as far back as the 7th century. The town once had a harbor on the banks of the Ganges and excavations at the site have brought out coins and old boats. Some of these belong to different places in the Middle East and Far East and this shows the importance of the city in terms of trade.

There are many interesting places that one can visit in the town and some of the main ones are Lajpat Park, Shiva Temple at Budanath, Champagnagar Jain Temple, Ghanta Ghar, Dargah of Guran Baba, Rabindra Nath Bhavan, Tegh Bahadur Gurudwara, Sandish Compound, Temple of Goddess Kali and Durga, Rajmahal Fossil Sanctuary and Sanjay Udyan Park.

Many festivals are celebrated in the town as well and some of the main ones are Laxmi Puja, Kali Puja, Chath Puja and Dussehra. The Muslim festival of Muharram is also celebrated widely here.
