Bellikkal is a small village at an altitude of 5,500 ft located in the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu. The Nilgiris, meaning the Blue Mountains, are beautiful ranges in the southern Indian stretch of the Western Ghats. The tiny hamlet of Bellikkal is still fairly unknown and has therefore maintained its natural charm and peace.
Bellikkal village is to the south of the Sigur Plateau in Tamil Nadu. The reserve forests of Madumalai and Bandipur are near Bellikkal. The region has been demarcated for protecting the unique and highly sensitive ecological balance existing there. There are also many distinctive species of flora and fauna in the region some of which are used for research by scientists across the world. There are several vantage points at Bellikkal that offer panoramic views of both forests with the surrounding mountain peaks, hills, valleys and rivers.
